TODAY, Wexler to Hold Press Conference on Economic Stimulus Transportation Projects in Palm Beach County

(West Palm Beach, FL) Congressman Wexler’s district events for Monday, March 23rd, 2009 are as follows:

9:45 AM: Press Conference

Today, Congressman Robert Wexler (D-FL) will hold a press conference with representatives from Palm Tran and the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority/Tri-Rail, as well as local leaders, to outline new stimulus funding for local transportation projects and discuss how the economic stimulus package is helping Palm Beach County and the entire South Florida region improve public transportation systems and embrace energy efficiency. Congressman Wexler recently voted for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, a bold and far-reaching economic stimulus package signed into law by President Barack Obama. The press conference will take place at Tri-Rail’s soon-to-be-opened Intermodal Hub, which will allow Palm Tran riders to connect seamlessly with Tri-Rail service.

The economic stimulus package is helping Palm Beach County purchase and put into rotation ten new hybrid buses for Palm Tran that not only are more energy efficient but help reduce greenhouse gases that contribute to global climate change. Tri-Rail is also putting stimulus dollars to work by purchasing new rolling stock and continuing initiatives to meet the growing demand from the South Florida community. In addition to enhancing transportation services for the residents of South Florida, these improvements are also creating and fulfilling new jobs on both a local and a national scale.
