Wexler Releases Statement on Governor Crist's Response Regarding Chinese Drywall Wexler to meet with families next week, continue to work with Governor Crist, colleagues in Congress, and local officials in South Florida
(Washington, DC) Today, Congressman Robert Wexler (D-FL) released the following statement after speaking with Governor Charlie Crist about families throughout Florida concerned by the health and safety risks posed by Chinese drywall in their homes:
“I am pleased to have received such a quick and thorough response from Governor Charlie Crist, who clearly shares my concern for the families throughout Florida facing Chinese drywall in their homes. I spoke with the Governor this afternoon, and I am confident that he is pursuing the right course of action by contacting the Environmental Protection Agency and asking them for assistance in conducting the appropriate studies. The stories I have heard from my constituents are astounding, and many of them are facing the impossible choice between leaving homes that they purchased in good faith and or staying in homes that may cause them serious health problems. Next week, I will be meeting with families whose homes have been affected by this drywall, and I look forward to working with Governor Crist, my colleagues in Congress, and local officials to find an appropriate remedy for this terrible situation.”
Congressman Wexler will be holding a press conference with Senator Bill Nelson, State Senator Jeremy Ring, State Senator Ted Deutch, State Representative Ari Porth, Parkland Mayor Michael Udine, and other local officials on Wednesday, April 8th, at 10:00 am (location to be announced).
Read Governor Crist's letter to Congressman Wexler and his letter to the EPA.
Congressman Robert Wexler is Chairman of the Subcommittee on Europe and a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House Judiciary Committee. Recently, Congressman Wexler served as an advisor on Middle East issues to President Barack Obama during his 2008 presidential campaign.
