Wexler to Hold Summit in Palm Beach County on Economic Crisis Facing Nonprofit Organizations
Over 100 Organizations' Leaders to Join Wexler for Event

(Washington, DC) Tomorrow, Monday, January 12th, Congressman Wexler will hold a summit with representatives of prominent South Florida nonprofit organizations to discuss the economic crisis and its impact on their operations. As Americans struggle to make ends meet, demand for the many services offered by nonprofit organizations have significantly increased. Simultaneously, many of these organizations have suffered losses in funding revenue as a result of the fledgling stock market and a financially distressed donor base.

Over 100 leaders of South Florida nonprofit organizations have confirmed their attendance for the event, which will focus on how to assist these organizations as they are overwhelmed by demand and inadequate funding. Congressman Wexler will speak about his actions in Washington to help curb the crisis. Also speaking at the event will be Perry Bowman of the Florida Department of Children and Family Services, Bob McFalls from the Area Agency on Aging, and Anne Chernin with Jewish Family Services, including many others.

"There are so many nonprofit organizations that serve South Florida in the form of hunger and homelessness prevention, medical assistance, transportation, education, disaster relief, and other basic necessities," said Congressman Wexler. "They also employ millions of people across our country and are integral to our economy. As Florida and other states suffer budget deficits and cut critical services, nonprofits are being overwhelmed by families and citizens that desperately need their assistance. I hope that this event will highlight the need for the upcoming economic stimulus package to include assistance to struggling nonprofit organizations. In Congress, I have addressed a letter to Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee David Obey on this very issue and am pleased that thus far 22 of my colleagues have signed onto it."
