Wexler and Diaz-Balart Urge Speaker Pelosi to Raise Chinese Drywall Issue During Trip to China
Chinese Drywall found in homes in Florida, Louisiana, Virginia, and 13 additional states

(Washington, DC) {Washington, DC) Today, Congressman Robert Wexler (FL-19) and Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (FL-25) sent a letter to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi regarding the health and safety risks posed by Chinese drywall found in homes through Florida, Louisiana, Virginia, and 13 additional states.  As Speaker Pelosi embarks on a trip to China for the Memorial Day recess, Congressman Wexler and Congressman Diaz-Balart urge her to raise this issue during her visit with Chinese governmental officials.

“At the Senate Subcommittee hearing held earlier this week on Chinese drywall, we learned that the Consumer Product Safety Commission has been in contact with Chinese officials about this issue, but that the exchange of information about the product they exported to us has been minimal," said Wexler.  "I believe it is critical that the Chinese government work with our federal agencies to determine the source and cause of this threat to homeowners around the nation, and I am hopeful that Speaker Pelosi will address this issue during her trip to China over the upcoming recess.”

“The problems created by Chinese drywall are widespread and affecting the health, safety and well being of families in Southern Florida and across the country,” said Diaz-Balart.  “I urge Speaker Pelosi to act in the best interest of American families and address this important issue while on her visit to China next week.”

Congressman Robert Wexler is Chairman of the Subcommittee on Europe and a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House Judiciary Committee. Recently, Congressman Wexler served as an advisor on Middle East issues to President Barack Obama during his 2008 presidential campaign.
