Wexler to Chair Europe Subcommittee Hearing on Obama Administration Policies in Europe
Philip Gordon, Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, to Testify at Hearing

(Washington, DC) On Tuesday, June 16, 2009, Congressman Robert Wexler (D-FL), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Europe and a senior member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, will hold a subcommittee hearing to review President Obama’s efforts to reinvigorate America’s relations with European allies and examine the Administration’s transatlantic defence, political, economic and security policies. Testifying at the hearing will be Philip Gordon, Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs at the US Department of State.

“This hearing is an important opportunity to review the Obama Administration transatlantic policies and is timely given the strategic challenges facing the U.S. and our European allies, including the global financial crisis, a nuclear Iran, a destabilized Afghanistan and Pakistan, and a resurgent Russia. I am heartened that both President Obama and Secretary Clinton have focused intently on strengthening transatlantic institutions, such as NATO, and are committed to enhancing our partnership with key European partners and the European Union,” said Congressman Wexler. “I look forward to Assistant Secretary of State Gordon’s testimony, which will shed light on President Obama efforts to strengthen the transatlantic alliance and work with our European allies to pursue common goals and defeat common threats.”
