Wexler Urges Bush to Add Hamas Media Outlet "Al-Aqsa" to Global Terrorist List
41 Members of Congress Denounce Hamas' Anti-Semitic, Anti-Israel, Violent Television Programming

(Washington, DC) Today, Congressman Robert Wexler (D-FL), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Europe and a senior member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, with 40 members of Congress, sent a letter to President George W. Bush urging him to designate Al-Aqsa, the television channel owned and operated by Hamas, as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist entity.

The letter to President Bush highlights the dangerous role Al-Aqsa is playing in inciting violence and teaching future generations of Palestinian children to embrace extremism and hatred over moderation and peace. Wexler and his colleagues also denounce Al-Aqsa for promoting terrorism and inciting violence against Americans, Israelis and Jews and routinely encouraging anti-Semitism. Finally, the letter urges President Bush to make every diplomatic effort to remove Al-Aqsa from satellite broadcasts on Saudi-based Arabsat, Egypt-owned Nilesat, and French-owned Eutelsat.

“It is clear that Al-Aqsa television serves as the chief mass media tool for Hamas to carry out fundraising, recruitment and its agenda of hatred, anti-Semitism, and terrorism,” said Congressman Wexler. “The Bush Administration previously designated Hezbollah’s Al-Manar TV as a global terrorist entity for its violent and extremist propaganda, and this same designation is absolutely warranted for Al-Aqsa TV.  It is unconscionable that Hamas is using Al-Aqsa to incite violence and teach future generations of Palestinian children to embrace extremism and hatred over moderation and peace.”

Since its launch on January 7, 2006, Al-Aqsa TV has been used by Hamas to glorify suicide bombing, hatred, extremism, and anti-Semitism. Among the disturbing programming is a children’s show “Tomorrow’s Pioneers,” which is aired to breed new terrorists through hatred for Israel, Western nations, President Abbas, and moderate Palestinians.  Al-Aqsa also broadcasts a Bugs Bunny look-alike character used to indoctrinate children by inciting them toward hatred and violence by telling them that he “will finish off the Jews and eat them” and a Mickey Mouse look-alike that teaches terrorist doctrines to children.

Congressman Wexler was joined on his letter by Gary L. Ackerman (D-NY), Shelley Berkley (D-NV), Howard L. Berman (D-CA), Gus M. Bilirakis (R-FL), Madeleine Z. Bordallo (D-GU), Leonard L. Boswell (D-IA), Dan Burton (R-IN), Steve Chabot (R-OH), Steve Cohen (D-TN), Joseph Crowley (D-NY), Eliot L. Engel (D-NY), Eni F. H. Faleomavaega (D-AS), Luis G.
