Wexler and Europe Subcommittee to Hold Hearing on U.S.-Russian Relations Following Moscow Summit
Hearing will focus on new era in U.S.-Russian relations

(Washington, DC) Tomorrow, Tuesday, July 28, 2009, Congressman Robert Wexler (D-FL), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Europe, will hold a hearing on U.S.-Russia relations. The hearing comes only weeks after President Obama’s summit in Moscow with Russian President Medvedev and Prime Minister Putin, and will focus on key U.S.-Russian bilateral issues including, START and arms control; missile defense; Iran; U.S-Russian military to military contracts; NATO-Russia relations; developments in Ukraine, Georgia and Eastern Europe; energy security; and bilateral trade and security cooperation.  Testifying at the hearing will be Dr. Phillip H. Gordon, Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, and Dr. Celeste Wallander, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Russia, Ukraine, and Eurasia at the U.S. Department of Defense.

The hearing, entitled, “The Reset Button Has Been Pushed: Kicking off a New Era in U.S.-Russian Relations,” will take place on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in Room 2172 of the Rayburn House Office Building.

Congressman Robert Wexler is Chairman of the Subcommittee on Europe and a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House Judiciary Committee. Recently, Congressman Wexler served as an advisor on Middle East issues to President Barack Obama during his 2008 presidential campaign.
