Wexler Calls for Impeachment Hearings in Speech on House Floor
Last night, Congressman Robert Wexler (D-FL), a senior member of the House Judiciary Committee, delivered a speech on the floor of the House of Representatives calling for impeachment hearings for Vice President Dick Cheney. The full text of the speech is available here.
Since declaring his support for impeachment hearings for Vice President Dick Cheney, Congressman Wexler has heard from thousands of Americans across the nation who strongly believe the House Judiciary Committee must immediately hold hearings.
"Did the Vice President manipulate intellgience to push this nation into war on false pretense? Did the Vice President unmask a covert CIA agent for political purposes? Did the Vice President order the illegal surveillance of Americans and the illegal use of torture?" Wexler asked. "Evidence mounts almost daily on these charges. Just recently former White House press secretary Scott McClellan revealed that the Vice President and his staff purposefully gave him false information to report to the American people - a clear obstruction of justice.... This House must have the conviction to face these troubling allegations. Holding hearings would put the evidence on the table - and the evidence alone must determine the outcome."
Today, Congressman Wexler is inviting his colleagues in Congress to sign a letter to Chairman John Conyers reiterating the call for impeachment hearings. Wexler also plans to publish each day in the Congressional Record the names of thousands of Americans who have supported his call for impeachment hearings. The letters are available here.
