Wexler Statement on the Passing of Tom Lantos:
Congressman Robert Wexler (D-FL) issued the following statement in response to the passing of Tom Lantos (D-CA), member of Congress and Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs:
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of my friend and colleague, Chairman Tom Lantos. My wife Laurie and I want to express our deepest condolences and sympathies to Annette Lantos and the entire Lantos family on this tragic occasion.
"The House of Representatives and the American people have lost a true patriot and a champion for human rights and democracy. There is not a member of Congress who did not admire Tom for his courage and strong convictions in overcoming the horrors of the Holocaust, and for his unwavering approach to protecting the freedoms of those in need. Tom was a foreign policy giant and a true leader who intrinsically understood the importance of America’s role in the world. Tom Lantos will stand as an inspiration to millions around the globe who were stirred by his legacy, eloquent oratory, and his countless noble actions and deeds.”
