Wexler Releases Statement on New Florida Unemployment Numbers
(Washington, DC) Today, Congressman Wexler released the following statement in reaction to newly announced unemployment numbers in Florida:
“Today’s announcement that Florida’s unemployment rate rose to 9.7 percent confirms what most of us already know – that our nation is going to continue to face a difficult year with significant economic challenges. Last week, I hosted a town hall meeting in Delray Beach, and spoke to hundreds of Floridians who are struggling in these economic conditions. Many of them are on the verge of foreclosure, have lost their jobs, and are worried about their health care costs. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is the first step towards revitalizing our economy. Those stimulus dollars are just now beginning to flow to a wide range of transportation, energy, and infrastructure projects in Florida. The recovery package also provides new tax cuts to small businesses that make new hires and cuts taxes for 95% of working families. Together, these measures are helping Floridians weather this economic storm. However, I know that much more needs to be done in Washington to get America’s economy back on track, and I am committed to getting this economy working for middle class Americans once again.”
