Wexler Praises Passage of Resolution Celebrating Israel's 60th Anniversary

Today Congressman Robert Wexler (D-FL), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Europe and a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, praised the passage of House Concurrent Resolution 322 recognizing the historic significance of the 60th anniversary of the state of Israel.  This important resolution also reaffirms the bond of friendship and cooperation between the United States and our ally Israel.

“On this historic occasion it is imperative that Congress reaffirms America’s unbreakable bond of friendship with our ally Israel.  Given the myriad difficulties facing Israelis in their efforts to secure lasting peace and security, it is essential that the United States stand shoulder to shoulder with Israel in her right to self defense.  Despite these serious impediments, Israelis have created a thriving Jewish homeland, overcoming numerous obstacles and challenges,” Congressman Wexler said. Israelis have displayed enormous courage and fortitude in the face of unconscionable terrorism, violence and threats to their very existence.

In six decades, a democratic and free state – Israel - has risen from the ashes of the Holocaust and developed into one of the most technologically advanced and innovative nations on Earth. Through all of the hardships, Israel has persevered and joined the United States and our democratic allies by creating a nation based on freedom, justice and human rights. I am proud to join my colleagues in Congress in supporting the state of Israel which is a shinning light of democracy in a region rife with dictators and extremists.”

Congressman Wexler is Chairman of the Europe Subcommittee and a senior member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and the House Judiciary Committee; and he also sits on the Financial Services Committee.
