Wexler Meets with Israeli Prime Minister in Advance of Talks with President Obama
(Washington, DC) Today, Congressman Robert Wexler (D-FL), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Europe and a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, returned from a three day trip to Israel, where he met with Prime Minister Netanyahu, Opposition Leader Tzipi Livni, several senior Israeli defense and foreign ministry officials as well as Palestinian leaders. During his meetings, Wexler focused on a wide range of issues, including strengthening American-Israeli relations, the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, combating Hamas and Hezbollah sponsored terrorism, thwarting smuggling into Gaza, the Israel-Syria track and preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
Congressman Wexler’s meeting with Prime Minister Netanyahu comes in advance of the Israeli leader’s upcoming trip to Washington on May 18, where he will meet with President Obama and discuss a variety of bilateral issues of importance to both the United States and Israel. Congressman Wexler is Chairman of the Subcommittee on Europe and a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House Judiciary Committee. Wexler recently served as an advisor to President Barack Obama on Middle East issues during his 2008 presidential campaign.
