Wexler Condemns Iranian Missile Launch
All Options Are on the Table in the Event Should Engagement with Iran Fail
Today, Congressman Robert Wexler (D-FL), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Europe and a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement in reaction to Iranian President Mamoud Ahmadinejad’s test launch of a new advanced missile with the capability of traveling up to 1,200 miles:
“Iran’s provocative missile launch in the midst of the Obama Administration’s effort to directly engage Tehran, and during the same week Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu visited Washington, is deeply disconcerting and raises grave concerns about Iranian intentions. While I remain a steadfast supporter of engagement with Iran for the purpose of thwarting its nuclear program, we must be clear that American policy is backed up with other options should Iran not respond favorably. As President Obama has said himself, all options – including the use of military force – remain on the table. Iran must understand that engagement is not an open-ended policy.”
