Wexler Releases Statement on President Obama's Speech in Cairo

(For more detailed comments made by Congressman Wexler regarding the President's speech, please see this editorial published by the Palm Beach Post on June 5, 2009).

Congressman Wexler released the following statement in reaction to President Obama's address to the Arab world in Cairo, Egypt:

“I enthusiastically support the message and agenda President Barack Obama unveiled during his speech in Cairo.  The President spoke directly and honestly to the Arab world about what divides us and how we can come together. In his speech, President Obama made clear that America's bond with Israel is unbreakable and Israel’s security is sacrosanct. I commend the President for calling on all parties - Israel, the Palestinians, the greater Arab world, and the United States - to look forward and not back as we begin to work together to make progress toward peace in the Middle East. I wholeheartedly support the President's plan to jumpstart the peace process between Israel and the Palestinians and the greater Arab world by working with all parties to fulfill their obligations. The President also made clear that we are open to dialogue with Iran but an Iran with nuclear weapons is unacceptable to the United States and to the world.”
