Wexler Votes for Resolution Condemning Murder of Dr. George Tiller
Today, Congressman Robert Wexler released the following statement applauding the passage of H. Res. 505, a resolution condemning the murder of Dr. George Tiller, who was shot to death at his church on May 31, 2009:
“I join President Obama, my colleagues in Congress, and millions of Americans in condemning the brutal murder of Dr. George Tiller in his place of worship, and offer my condolences to his family and friends. For decades, Dr. Tiller made legal abortion procedures available to women in his community, despite the constant threat of violence from those who oppose a woman’s right to choose. I was particularly troubled that Dr. Tiller was murdered at his church, where he should have been able to engage in personal reflection and worship with his community. While Americans may hold differing opinions on abortion, it is absolutely critical that we stand together in rejecting the use of violent intimidation and acts of terror against our own citizens. I hope that this resolution will remind every American that violence is never the appropriate avenue to resolve our differences.”
