Wexler and Ackerman to Hold Hearing on Strengthening the European and Israeli Relationship
(Washington, DC) Congressman Robert Wexler (D-FL), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Europe, and Congressman Gary Ackerman (D-NY), Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Middle East and South Asia in the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, will hold a joint hearing on Wednesday, July 9 at 2:00 p.m. focused on strengthening the partnership between Europe and Israel. The witnesses testifying at the joint hearing include Ambassador Oded Eran, General Director of the World Jewish Congress Israel Branch and former Israeli Ambassador to the European Union and Jordan; Rafael Bardaji, Director of International Policy at the FAES Foundation and Advisor to Former Spanish Prime Minister José María Aznar; Dr. Ian Lesser, Senior Transatlantic Fellow at the German Marshall Fund of the United States; and Dr. Nile Gardiner, Director of the Heritage Foundation’s Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom.
Wednesday’s joint subcommittee hearing will focus on the growing economic, political, and security relationship between the Europe and Israel as well as efforts to upgrade European Union-Israeli relations, North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)-Israel relations and European bilateral relations with Israel. It is expected that the hearing will also focus on key security challenges facing the United States, Europe and Israel, including combating terrorist organizations such as Hamas, Hezbollah and Al Qaeda as well as joint efforts to deter the leading state sponsors of terror Syria and Iran. Finally, the hearing will shed light on American, European, Israeli and international efforts to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
