Wexler Lauds Passage of Legislation Reducing Homeowners Insurance Rates

Today, Congressman Robert Wexler (D-FL) released the following statement in support of the Homeowners’ Defense Act of 2007 which today passed the House Committee on Financial Services.  Wexler voted in favor of the legislation that is aimed at relieving the ever-intensifying homeowners’ insurance crisis in Florida and across the nation.  The legislation focuses on stabilizing the private insurance market and allowing the federal government to assist by spreading the risk of natural disasters.

“The insurance rates of my constituents are doubling and tripling when they have not made a claim in years, and many are finding it nearly impossible to purchase insurance policies in any price range,” Congressman Wexler said. “Congress cannot afford to wait any longer to act.  Congress should immediately pass this bill and finally bring real relief to homeowners in Florida and across the nation.”
